2023 Nissan Altima Gets Styling Refresh, Price Bump
In a crowded class of affordable midsize sedans, little distinguishes the Nissan Altima. It’s fine, really. A long list of standard safety equipment, an available turbocharged engine, and optional all-wheel-drive make it the right choice for many. But it competes in a crowd of look-alike, drive-alike cars and currently sits at an oh-yeah-that-exists-too spot in our list of the Best Midsize Sedans.
For the 2023 model year, Nissan will try to win some attention for its midsize car with a makeover. It’s not a redesign – the chassis, transmission, and two available engine choices remain the same. It’s what the auto industry calls a “mid-cycle refresh” – a glow-up inside and out to try to keep a car competitive without the expense of reinventing it.
Outside, the Altima gets a new face. Nissan’s “V-motion grille” appears, with its frameless low end. New LED headlights include integrated turn signals. Each trim gets its own wheel design. We find the 15-spoke set on the SR model particularly attractive.
Inside, the headline is an available 12.3-inch touchscreen. A smaller 8-inch model is still standard on the base trim, but the big screen does a lot to update the Altima’s cabin. Wireless Apple CarPlay is now standard. The Altima also includes Android Auto, but Android users still have to plug in.
Some active safety features that had been optional are now standard, including blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. But the full suite, which Nissan calls Pro Pilot Assist, is still an option on SR and SV models. It comes standard on the top-of-the-line SL.
Most trim levels see a modest price bump of just a few hundred dollars, but the top-of-the-line SR VC-Turbo model goes up by $3,740. It adds standard leather seating, automatic climate control, and a power driver’s seat to justify the increase.
Nissan also charges a $1,095 destination and handling fee on the Altima. Most competitors have raised their delivery fees for 2023, but Nissan has held steady with a relatively low delivery price.
